We know that attending a church service for the first time can be intimidating. Different churches have different customs, and being unsure of what the dress, culture, when to stand up and sit down, etc. can be a weirdly paralyzing thought! But we encourage you not to worry about that stuff! At Philly First Methodist Church, you will see people in jeans, in three-piece suits, and everything in between. You will be warmly greeted by our greeters and ushers as you enter, and we will be glad to help you find a seat if you so desire. The service is a traditional form of worship, but we also like to mix it up and use different instruments along with older and newer hymns and praise songs. While we are traditional in form, don't mistake that style of worship for a silent, unresponsive worship service. We like to clap and like to laugh as we sing, pray, and hear the reading and proclamation of scripture. If you have any questions about the church or the service, we encourage you to contact us in advance, and we will be happy to help you in any way we can. We welcome you to Philly First Methodist Church!
First time at FMC?
Our Worship Services
We have a single worship service every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. The service is broadcast live each week on local Cable Channel 7, 102.3 FM, and via the LIvestream page on our website, YouTube Live, and Facebook Live. We offer several special worship services throughout the year such as a Christmas Eve Communion Service, Ash Wednesday, and Holy Week Services which occur on other days of the week in the evening.
sunday school
Sunday School meets Sundays at 9 a.m. We have classes for all ages and stages in life, and we’ll be more than happy to help you find a class that fits you.
Children in worship
Children of all ages are always welcome in worship at FMC, and we believe that children are best formed in the worshipping community. But we also know that not all children are prepared for worship at the same age.
Our Children's Church program is for 3-year-old pre-K through 4th grade every Sunday except the first Sunday of the month, when we celebrate Holy Communion. We believe it is important for families to participate in that Sacrament together. Worship Readiness will include child-friendly discussion and teaching to help children learn the elements of the church's worship and spiritual practices, including the Doxology, the Apostles’ Creed, and the Lord’s Prayer.
nursery
We have loving and playful volunteers to care for the youngest members of the church. The nurseries are for children from birth to 3 year olds.
We have childcare available for special church services, including Christmas Eve and Holy Week services, as well as for Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights.
